SS7 MTP Level 3 User Adaptation Layer (M3UA)

Description: OpenSS7 Product Status SS7 over IP SIGTRAN M3UA

Note that it is now possible to select from most of these categories off of the "Related" sidebar menu.

Overview:-

This is the SS7 MTP3-User Adaptation Layer (M3UA) component of the OpenSS7 SIGTRAN stack. This component implements the M3UA functions in a STREAMS multiplexing driver.

The M3UA STREAMS driver provides three interfaces: the Message Transfer Part Interface (MTPI), the Network Provider Interface (NPI) and the Transport Provider Interface (TPI).

The M3UA STREAMS driver supports I_LINK and I_PLINK of Message Transfer Part Interface (MTPI) streams providing SS7 MTP Level 3 MTP-SAPs under the driver (SG operation). It also supports I_LINK and I_PLINK of Transport Provider Interface (TPI) streams providing Stream Control Transmission Protoocl (SCTP) or other transport under the driver.

History:-

The M3UA component was started in January 2000.

Status:-

The M3UA component of the OpenSS7 stack is in the Testing stage, however, it has been rewritten on a number of occasions.

Dependencies:-

This component depends on the SS7 MTP Level 3 Message Transfer Part Interface (MTPI) and Transport Provider Interface (TPI) access to the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) or other transports.

Design:-

Designs for the M3UA component are available here.

Documentation:-

Documentation for the M3UA component is available here.

Test Results:-

OpenSS7 has participated (and will continue to participate) in testing events for the M3UA component. These are:

1st M3UA Interoperability Test Madrid
ETSI SIGTRAN Plug Test #1
ETSI SIGTRAN Plug Test #2
ETSI SIGTRAN Plug Test #3 - September 2003

Test results have not yet been released to the public. Please see the CVS Archive Page for more information on obtaining access to the test results.

References:-

A reference list for the M3UA component can be viewed here.

Code:-

Code has not yet been released to the public. Please see the CVS Archive Page for more information on obtaining access to the code.

Release Package:-

The SS7 MTP3-User Adaptation Layer (M3UA) is an integral part of the OpenSS7 STREAMS SIGTRAN stack and provides redundancy to the OpenSS7 STREAMS SS7 stack. It can be found in the m3ua sub-directory in the strss7 release code. Please see the Downloads Page and CVS Archive Page for more information.
