System Requirements

Description: OpenSS7 Resources System Requirements.

Current System Requirements are as follows:

  1. Linux PC
  2. Just about any PC will do. Don't try to use a small memory footprint machine; however, 32M of memory should suffice. Most OpenSS7 packages do not use more than about 1M of kernel. Intel architecture is not required. Most packages build on PPC, HPPA and other architectures supported by Linux. Also, the Performance Technologies NexusWare cards running embedded Linux are also supported.

    The following architectures are supported:

    • ix86
    • x86_64
    • ppc (MCP 860)
    • ppc64

The architectures above are the architectures that are available to the project for creating test builds.

  3. Linux 2.4 or 2.6 Kernel
  4. STREAMS 0.7a.4 runs nicely with either 2.4 or 2.6 kernels. We have released 2.4 and 2.6 version of the SCTP and SS7 stacks. These will run on SMP as well. All of the release packages run nicely on the following distributions:

    • RedHat Linux 7.2 (RH7)
    • RedHat Linux 7.3 (RH7)
    • Performance Technlogies NexusWare24
    • RedHat Linux 8.0 (RH8)
    • RedHat Linux 9 (RH9)
    • SuSE 8.0 Professional
    • Fedora Core 1 (FC1)
    • Debian 3.0r2 Woody (deb3.0)
    • Mandrakelinux 9.2 (MDK92)
    • RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (EL3)
    • WhiteBox Enterprise Linux 3.0 (WBEL3)
    • CentOS Enterprise Linux 3.4 (centos34)
    • Fedora Core 2 (FC2)
    • SuSE 9.1 Personal
    • Mandrakelinux 10.0 (MDK100)
    • SuSE 9.2 Professional (SuSE9.2)
    • Mandrakelinux 10.1 (MDK101)
    • Fedora Core 3 (FC3)
    • RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 (EL4)
    • CentOS Enterprise Linux 4.0 (centos4)
    • WhiteBox Enterprise Linux 4 (WBEL4)
    • Fedora Core 4 (FC4)
    • Lineox 4.026 (LEL4)
    • Lineox 4.053 (LEL4)
    • Mandriva Linux LE2005 (MDK102)
    • Performance Technologies NexusWare 8.0
    • SuSE OpenSuSE (SuSEOSS)
    • SuSE 10.0 (SuSE10.0)
    • SuSE 10.1 (SuSE10.1)
    • Fedora Core 5 (FC5)
    • Mandriva Linux LE2006 (MDK103)
    • Debian 3.1r0a Sarge (deb3.1)
    • SLES 9 (SLES9)
    • SLES 9 SP2 (SLES9)
    • SLES 9 SP3 (SLES9)
    • SLES 10 (SLES10)
    • Ubuntu 5.10 (ubu5.10)
    • Ubuntu 6.03 (ubu6.03)
    • Gentoo 2006.1 (untested)
    • Mandriva One (untested)

Other distributions should work as well. When installing from the tarball, the packages are probably compatible with a much broader array of distributions than those listed above. These are the distributions that the project has available for creating and testing builds.

  5. Development Tool Chain
  6. To develop from the CVS archive or to modify and then recompile the sources you will need the following tool chain:

    • autoconf 2.59
    • automake 1.9.6
    • libtool 1.5.22
    • gettext 0.14.5

To build documentation, the build host also requires the following documentation tools:

    • gs 8.15
    • tetex 3.0
    • texinfo 4.8
    • transfig 3.2.5
    • imagemagick 6.2.4
    • groff 1.17.2
